Inspirational artists/Designers

I thought I would write a post on my most inspriational designers and artists. The photo below are of my two favourite books. 'Textile designers at the cutting edge' is a showcase of the worlds most innovative designers working today. The book is full of beautiful images and wonderful ideas. The other is 'Fashion Jewellery catwalk and couture by Maia Adams'

This book inspired me throughout university as I found my unique style within textile design. My passion for jewellery and precious metals began to grow within my textile work, and now they work hand in hand. My favourite designer in the book is Michelle Jank who said:

" im interested in blurring the line between jewellery and clothing so that you dont know where one starts and the other finishes"

This is something I like to get accross through my textile design. The mix of fabrics with unique embellishment, handmade leather hole punched sequins and rolled ribbon used as beads. sheer and soft mixed with metals and resins. I love to design highly embellished fabrics which create impact and interesting innovative techniques pushing the boundaries of fashion and textile.

Fashion designers that inspire me

Christopher Kane
I love his mix of fabrics , he uses lightweight chiffons mixed with leather to create impact and control the weight of his fabrics.I love the prints below they remind me of my final collection for university. The colours and black outlines add structure to the lightweight fabrics.

Mark Fast

I love mark fasts designs a lot of his garments are made up of interlocking lines made up using techniques such as knotting, macramé and crochet. The placement on mark fasts designs and lines seem to elongate the shape adding curves and slimming the figure.

Natalie B Coleman

Her collection was based on ghostly watercolour illustrations My style of illistration is very similar to natalies, very fluid way with my mark making and Natalie's style reminded me off my own with dripping watercolours and an unusual style, I also really liked how her prints stood out on the white backgrounds and had really thought about placement and space as well as intense colour from the watercolours, this is something I am considering when designing my prints.

My favourite artist is Sabrina Ward harrison she has inspired me right from my GSCE art through to my photography and onto my degree. She makes images using a very mixed media approach , photography,paint and stitch all into one image.

MY DREAM HOUSE

Dream house

I've had this cut out pinned to my wall in my studio for agess, it is literally my dream house. I would just love to fill it with unique vintage reworked pieces of furniture and fabrics it could be so Beautiful.

I would have my studio right at the top of the house with a huge window that would overlook the garden full of wild flowers.

I can dream <3

New ideas - Initial visualizations

Below are some prints I have been experimenting with, Looking at clashing harsh bold lines with floaty sheer chiffon fabric.Bold prints and intricate embroidery/beading detailing.

I want to carry on my idea/theme from my degree show but make a more commercial collection- tshirts, cropped tops, printed tube skirts, and bodycon/skater style dresses.

I want to create two separate collections one carrying on from my degree show which will be quite dark with injections of bold colour, harsh lines and very photographic prints. Contrasted with another collection of beautiful illustrative floral prints and stitch work, using de constructed lace detailing and cut work.

Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated as these ideas are still in the initial stages.
